Meet this week's guest editor, Myles Brown, owner of MYLO Video Productions! Myles is ready to serve up his recommendations for exploring and celebrating the River City. A musical artist and filmmaker from Richmond, Myles focuses on how self-expression, music, vulnerability, honest conversations, and escapism through nature can lead to a stronger and healthier community. You'll find him anywhere and everywhere supporting and contributing to Richmond's creative ecosystem.
Take it away, Myles ...

Soccer Match
Richmond Kickers vs. Union Omaha
On Friday you can find me with the Red Army cheering on our Richmond Kickers! Kickers games are arguably my favorite summer event in the city. There’s nothing like gathering up a group of my friends and walking through Carytown to City Stadium. I grew up playing academy soccer for the Richmond Strikers and eventually played D1 soccer for Notre Dame and UNC Charlotte, so this sport is a huge part of my identity. It’s amazing how passionate Richmond is about the Kickers organization and I’m excited to attend each home game this season.
More than 300 artists from around the country will gather in Byrd Park for the 52nd Annual Arts in the Park to display fine art paintings, metal crafts, jewelry and much more. This nationally-rated juried art show is free and open to the public. Proceeds from the event will support community programs, local parks, the public library, and the school system. I’m not exactly sure what to expect, but I may bring my camera and my drone to document what I observe. That’s typically what I do at Richmond events, so I’m excited to see what I can put together!
Vitals:
Arts in the Park / Byrd Park – 1301 Blanton Avenue, Richmond / Saturday, May 6, 11 am – 6 pm & Sunday, May 7, 11 am – 5 pm
More About Myles
In addition to being a local creative, filmmaker, and musician, Myles' production company works on a range of highly visible projects. His work has been featured on the “Own Your Shine” Juneteenth Artist Spotlight series by the Oprah Winfrey Network as well as Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Chamber RVA, Sports Backers, Maymont, BLK RVA, and more.
Myles' unique filmmaking style formulated after pursuing a degree in Psychology. At UNC Charlotte, he joined a research team that focused on perceived discrimination against African-American college students, as well as the coping mechanisms used to manage these chronic stressors to achieve psychological wellness. Myles infuses similar coping strategies into his work to illuminate experiences that are universally understood. He hopes that telling vulnerable and authentic narratives will promote empathy and interconnectedness in the Richmond community.
