VOL. 19  /  CULTURE

This week, we're thinking culture. Pop culture, a dash of history balanced with a dance party, and some photography, but a touch more highbrow than your Instagram feed.

Speaking of Instagram, are you following ours? Apparently, the Internet was obsessed with this shot from the weekend.

Let's do this.

Click

It

If good things really take time, then glave kocen gallery's invitational photography exhibit opening on Friday is going to be stellar.

After a four-year hiatus, the fourth edition of "Click" will showcase work from both pro and first-time photographers in Virginia. This isn't just point-and-shoot either. We're talking pinholes, photomontages and something special to do with those historical marker signs you see down South.

For a peek before Friday's receiption, follow glave kocen on Instagram. To go down the rabbit hole, go back for the "Click & Tell" gallery talk on February 17.

Museum

Parties

We're biding our time until peak happy hour returns. Until then, stay warm at VMFA After Hours on Saturday. Attire: museum chic and your dancing shoes.

Kelli Lemon is hosting a party that's mixing in 200 B.C. China with classic R&B and more. We'll be catching our breath in the new dessert and coffee lounge.

Speaking of breaking your new year's resolution, the VMFA is also the venue for Family Lifeline’s decadent benefit, Chocoholic 2018, next week. Indulging feels even better when you're giving back.

Super Bowl

Sunday

We've got recs for all three types of Super Bowl watchers.

You're in it for the game / Embrace the patriotism (Patriots vs. Eagles, anyone?) with burgers. They may be New Zealand-inspired, but Burger Bach's new location on W. Cary St. is the place to be.

Commercials, all day / Game-watchers will get loud during your favorite part, so skip the bar scene and stay in with your fellow ad lovers. Add Mama J's and repeat. This is an ad town, after all.

There's a football game before the JT concert? / Take preemptive measures against the chips and dip and hit up BOHO's new Church Hill spin studio for a midday ride. The theme? Super Bowl Halftime Stars.
